Sport is what makes so many of us tick. It’s what makes us overflow with joy, fire up with passion and challenges us to keep improving. I feel so lucky every time I lace up my skates, strap into my snowboard or do a lap along the warning track knowing that I’m about to play sports with my health and strength at my back. It’s this appreciation that motivates me to participate in Motionball for Special Olympics and fundraise on behalf of the incredible athletes that haven’t been given the same opportunities I have when it comes to sports.

Let me introduce you to Zach Anner. He’s a comedian, an author, a filmmaker and an inspiration. Zach has Cerebral Palsy, has been confined to a wheelchair since he was a kid and recently wrote a book (humourously) titled If at Birth You Don’t Succeed. The title really hit home for me and made me think about why I feel so strongly about Motionball and the Special Olympics. There is nothing these folks could have done differently to pave a different path for themselves; they were born with inherent disabilities that limited them from the get-go. It’s how these tremendous people tirelessly battle the odds and dedicate themselves to being the best they can be that make me so proud to be part of their world.

I’ll be participating in my third Motionball Marathon of Sport in May and your support would not only mean the world to me, but to all the Canadian Special Olympians as well.
