On June 24th, I am participating in an all-day fundraiser called Marathon of Sports. Marathon of Sports/Motionball raises money and awareness for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation. This event is a sports day, where young professionals put together a team and spend a day playing the sports of the Special Olympics alongside Special Olympic athletes.

Why this organization means so much to me: just over two (2) years ago my little niece, Payton Louise was born. Payton has Down Syndrome and it has been an absolute blessing. My sister and brother-in-law are quite possibly the best parents Payton could have been born to and have and will continue to provide Payton with every opportunity available.

Sports and athletics come highly valued in our family and have been an integral part of our upbringings and it is no doubt in my mind that I am going to be the Auntie of a future Special Olympian. In previous years I have volunteered for Marathon of Sports Calgary and Motionball. Payton has brought on a new meaning to this organization, making it very close to our hearts. My family and I want to be more involved and contribute to Payton’s and all individuals with intellectual disabilities futures and quality of life. Putting together a team to participate in this special day and to help raise money is the first of many steps in doing so.

I am humbly asking for any donation you/your company are comfortable with and willing to donate. I understand the economic difficulties presenting themselves to many at this time and fully understand if there are limited or no funds to be donated at this time.

Here are some stats to show where your donations will go. To date, $7,500,000 has been donated, $1.2 Million being in 2016.
• 70% of funds raised go to Provincial Special Olympics Chapters to continue to develop quality programming in local areas.
• 25% of funds raised stay with the Special Olympics Canada Foundation
• 5% of funds raised will be directed to the #nogoodway campaign (A campaign dedicated to bringing awareness and stopping the use of the R-word)
**Special Olympics Canada only has three (3) paid positions for all of Canada. All events (24 Canada wide annually) are made happen due to volunteers and partnerships and donations from various companies.

Thanking you in advance. I would be happy to speak with you about Marathon of Sports Calgary or what your donations will help Special Olympics Canada achieve in 2017.

XXOO,
Kari
